4 Reasons Gaming Companies Should Remake Old Games

Video games these days have been serving as an escape for me, an opportunity to focus on something thrilling and engaging while ignoring what’s going on in the world. But while the world is indeed suffering — especially in the United States — I want to provide an opportunity to set that aside for the time being and look at the world of gaming.

Video games have been a minor hero amongst this pandemic with many people playing Doom Eternal, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Monster Train, and many many others. It’s easier for people to practice social distancing in these circumstances as each of those games provides a world for you to imagine and immerse yourself in.

All in all, these are great games.

However, one thing that I find interesting with this industry is the fact that not many AAA studios bother to go back to older IPs.

I know it’s strange to say that especially since in January, Nintendo announced Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX, and Sony launched FF7 Remake. However, the original Mystery Dungeon series was launched was in 2005. And Final Fantasy 7 fans have been waiting for over two decades for a remake with teasers emerging as early as 2015 (plus the 2006 Advent Children film could’ve stirred some fans as well).

I write (and sometimes do videos) about self-help for those who don't like self-help. Complete with the occasional memes and riffs on the industry that I love.
