Distractions break up the flow of thought and productivity. All that needs to be done is to prepare oneself to get into flow and to do it.

As I get myself into a writing flow anew, one of the biggest detractors for me is distractions.

On one end I get it. As a writer, my goal is to grow an audience that will someday support my work and I can live a better life. The fact I’ve been going at it for so long with little to show for it continues to push me forward.

But also makes me distracted in the sense my mind is occasionally bombarded with thoughts of trying something else.

With determination, I breathe in and keep pushing myself forward and doing so means picking up some of these techniques that I use below. These help me enter into a flow state and give me the focus I need to push through negative thoughts, doubt, hesitation, and any other distractions.

And my hope is that these will help you too.

Begin With The Head Empty Tasks First

Tasks so thoughtless that you can get them done in a matter of minutes. Be it washing dishes, jotting down a few notes, sending a quick email to someone, it doesn’t matter.

I write (and sometimes do videos) about self-help for those who don't like self-help. Complete with the occasional memes and riffs on the industry that I love.
