#2: Have Multiple Income Streams

Growing up, my views about money stem from a unique position.

My dad instilled in me that if I were to get what I want out of life I would need to take action. It’s very baby boomer style parenting where you have to look after yourself and work hard.

It’s this logic that encouraged me to try and be more self-sustaining. It’s taught me to be smart with my money and to do research.

But at the same time, my sheer whiteness and living in Canada have also given me a tonne of privileges. Canada has a solid student repayment program that allows me to delay payments forever — just so long as I’m not making over a certain amount.

The government also has a COVID relief fund which I’ve been claiming on the regular just to survive for the past year and a half.

On top of all this, I know that if I ever run into any financial binds I could easily move back home with my parents if it ever comes to that.

Of course, not everyone has these privileges and each person's financial situation is going to be vastly different from mine.

Some people have to maintain upkeep costs on a car (whereas my mode of transportation is walking/biking). Some have medical bills to…
