Elon Musk: The “Donald Trump” Of Gen X
A figurehead of self-help, Musk can be best described as anything but ideal.
History has a tendency to repeat itself but it still finds a way to pull people in.
When Donald Trump first made his political appearance, I thought it was a good idea. He’s a business man and my mid-20 self thought running a country like a business was a good idea. And Donald Trump was heralded as this great successful man so he’d make a good pick overall.
Similarly, Elon Musk to me was a successful man who went through many hardships. His “origin story” was an emotional roller coaster where he persisted against the various set backs he experienced before becoming one of the richest men in the world. He lost his first wife, he got kicked out off PayPal, and trying to make Tesla into a viable company had several challenges to. Particularly in the fact no one was even thinking of electric vehicles at the time let alone luxury ones.
I wasn’t a hardcore fan of these individuals, but rather I was pulled in by the image that these two individuals presented themselves to be. Musk’s overall story was something I could sort of relate to. Trump’s overall confidence was something I aspired for too.
