They received vague threats. Whenever they posted something they were getting comments from burner social media profiles that casted doubt about what they were doing.

The committee itself likely had some points of contention with some of its decisions. But this committee, year after year, never once refused to hold a Pride event in celebration of Pride Month.

At least until now.

A few weeks ago, the committee normally organizing my town’s Pride event made an announcement of them cancelling the event after much deliberation. They stressed the decision wasn’t easy to make but after getting various threats to staffers, volunteers, and committee members, they figured it was best to not host the event.

They also received similar threats revolving around an event that was held the night before, though claimed it was unrelated to their current decision.

We never got screenshots of the threats in question beyond this vague claim. Beyond that, I don’t recall this ever being an issue until this year.

In town, there is clearly more hatred geared towards the LGBTQ2SIA community as a whole. Last September there were protests and counter protests around trans bills. Several were made in…
