How To Make A More Inviting Space
How to encourage people to further engage in a positive space.
A little girl looked nervously towards the skate park. One of her desires is to learn how to skateboard and her mother, wanting to support her daughter, encouraged her up to this point.
She bought her gear, brought her to the skate park, and stood by her side.
Looking at the boys, she even said “So what? These boys don’t own this space.” When her daughter commented on the fact only teenage boys were here.
And so, with her board in hand, she got into the skate park and started on her own.
Eventually, one of the boys noticed her and approached her. Instead of berating her or bullying her, he guided her on how to stand. He cautioned her about the rails and to avoid getting hit by them.
Sure, the little girl wasn’t fantastic and made a lot of mistakes. But she had genuine fun and the mother who brought her daughter there didn’t regret the decision of encouraging her daughter to be part of this community.
