How To Obtain Intense Focus Quickly

The Daily Grind #19

Focus is a skill that I struggled with for a long time. I found it difficult to work for prolonged periods of time when I first started and got distracted by every little thing.

Whether it was my own thoughts that led me eventually playing video games or watching videos, I felt trapped.

These days, though I am still distracted at times, but it results in me usually doing other work. From posting on Instagram once in a while to uploading photos or checking other work-related things. Either way, for the most part, I am focused on the task at hand.

How I obtained this level of focus took me a lot of time to achieve. That being said, there were some key elements that helped me along the way.

The first thing is that I redefined my why. For the longest time I couldn’t focus because I had no direction. Sure, at some point in time I did set goals during that period, but it didn’t move me forward. I found no meaning in the goals that I “worked towards.”

A why must be a heavily invested reason. It’s a reason that gets you out of bed every morning and to really focus on what you want to achieve.

The second thing is that I’m working in an environment to facilitate my growth. I now can get a lot done in the room that I grew up. This came from the result of me shifting how I view my room. As a child, this was the place I spent most of my time playing. Now, this is a place I mostly do work.

The work I do is important because it brings me closer to the goals — which I value — closer to me.

What is also key is that I don’t only have one area. I’ve actually got two. The second place is an opportunity for intense work and focus. This is mainly due to the lack of wifi (or decent wifi) which leaves me with nothing but to do my work. As a result, it’s not out of the ordinary for me to write 3000+ words in the span of 4 hours.

I believe having the two places is ideal due to the fact that it changes the formula. We are not meant for routine, it’s not like us. So by throwing a wrench into the routine so to speak, we become better focused than before.

How To Get Intense Focus? Simple.

We all have our own methods of getting focused. From our morning rituals all the way down to the area in which we work. For me, I’m able to get focused from writing these posts every morning as soon as I wake up.

After all, the room I wake up in is the place in which I do work and continue to grow myself.

To your growth!

Yesterday was a day that I struggled to get out of the house. From all the routine things I did yesterday it was until the afternoon I was able to get everything done.

I had to admit I was feeling a little burnt out, but I didn’t give in. In fact, I pushed myself further. I dragged myself out of the house and biked down to my usual spot.

For the first time in a few weeks I enjoyed myself some nice chai tea (it was a chai tea latte because I forgot to stress I wanted the tea only) and focused on my work.

As a result, I managed to crank out some drafts for future guest posts I’ll be doing along with some more articles for my upcoming site on Monday.

Needless to say, I feel pretty satisfied and refreshed to tackle some more things for the remainder of this week. Let’s do this!
