How To Wake Up With Intent Every Day
The Daily Grind #25

Our lives are governed by a number of things.
What our daily morning ritual is like.
What we think our day is going to be like.
What’s happening around the house when we wake up.
And more.
It’s these particular things that go on in our lives that determine how our day is going to be, and what sort of mood we’ll be in.
A lot of people come out grouchy because they couldn’t sleep in and have to go to work.
Others may be sad or even depressed for a number of reasons.
For myself and others, I wake up happy, focused, and motivated.
The reason why we have such differing days can vary of course, but one thing I believe is dramatically different is how we wake up.
We either wake up with intention, or we don’t and sleep in.
It’s this differing nature that shifts how we approach the day and how we view our day and our work.
Do You Wake Up Disconnected?
I know how you feel. I think we’ve all been in this position before. It’s a path with no real destination because you’re not quite sure what you want. Maybe you have a vague idea but it lacks substance.
You want to get out of debt, but you aren’t making enough to pay both the debt and stay alive.
You want to start a business so you can enjoy more freedom.
You want to travel because travelling is cool.
While good intentions, these are blanket statements. They don’t quite explain why you want to save up or do those things.
I wanted to be an accountant all because I took a course in high school and was interested in the subject. The only real motivator for me was the fact that this position normally pays very well.
In other words I was motivated purely for money.
As a result, money dictated my life. When I worked, I didn’t have much intention. I needed the money and that’s it.
There was no concrete plan I had in mind for later. All I wanted to do was get out of debt.
While the intent makes sense, it’s not exactly something that is going to get you up out of bed every single day. What’ll happen after I pay off that debt? I wouldn’t have a clue.
Do You Wake Up With Intention?
But these days I wake up with intention in my life. It’s why I only get about seven hours of sleep every day, waking up around 7 or 8 in the morning.
My intentions are what drive me to write these posts every morning without fail for yet another month. It’s also the reason why I tack on a lot of work for me to do during the day.
I wake up with the intent to push myself and challenge myself in every way.
The reason being is that I want my life to be demanding. Stable enough, but demanding of myself.
I have specific reasons behind the actions that I do. They’re not blanket statements that other people can come up with. They are specific towards to me.
It is for this reason that I am happy, focused and motivated. I know exactly what I want to get out of the day before the day even starts. I’m also aware of what my day is going to be like every single day.
All because I have specific tools by my side:
- Goals to keep me focused.
- ‘Whys’ to keep me motivated in achieving those goals.
- Enough motivation to hustle and make me happier doing the things that I want to do because those whys speak to me.
Wake up with intention by following these principals.
To your growth!

Yesterday was another scorcher of a day, but another great day for me to get a lot of work in. I even had the opportunity to take a short nap too.
The routine that I have is getting easier and easier for me to get through. Still, I can’t deny that it takes a while to get through everything. It’s times like these I wish I had someone else working for me. Regardless, I’ll be moving forward and making advancements. This is a test for myself and I’ve got a pretty good foothold on the workload.
