I think a lot of that has to do with the picture that is being painted of entrepreneurship versus working for someone else.

Entrepreneurship is presented as more liberating, despite the fact that basically anything you do online - including running a business - now is done through some middle-man.

On top of that, there has always been talk about people feeling disconnected at work, are angry about their bosses, or need to make extra money. Some of those reasons are legitimate, but when that's drilled into people and people experience it, it makes sense why people think running a business is a better option than working with other workers to improve the working environment of the company they're in.
