I think it depends on your understanding of what a pointless job is. I never once suggested someone who works in those positions is working a pointless job. A dead-end job, but not a pointless one, there's a difference. I think those are crucial and without those individuals a lot of systems collapse and many businesses would stop working.
I think people in those positions should be paid a lot more than they are being paid but they're not because upper management wants their quarterly bonus.
A lot of these pointless jobs are typically found in more office-type settings as I mentioned in the article. Examples are telemarketing, lobbying, human resources, and management firms. Also, this would be a much bigger issue in companies that have a larger amount of staff as I doubt a small or medium-sized business would create a job like this.
