My experience with upwork is making a decent $20K off of a handful of clients. Similar to what others are saying, UpWork can work provided you're willing to look around and find clients.

That being said, I find there is a lot of garbage these days similar to what you've experienced Charlie. Worse, I don't even get rejected when I apply for a gig. The client just ghosts me.
