These past few weeks I’ve had a case of going through the motions. There have been times where I broke free of the routine though.
Not to mention the times I’ve hung out with my cousin and gone to my usual café spot to write.
These are all pauses and breaks in the usual routine of my life. It gives me a chance to breath.
However as I’ve been noticing, they haven’t done much to change the repetitiveness and my mood towards them.
I know as an entrepreneur this is a constant battle. There comes a point where you are going through these motions as you grow your business. People need your help or there is something else that you need to deal with. Your own goals demanding your attention and more.
Because of this, it’s easy for the entrepreneur to get into this cycle. Furthermore it becomes dangerous as the emotions of the entrepreneur start to shift about as their attitude about the cycle changes.
But there is a way to break out of it.
In fact I was reminded about it today.
All you have to do is remind yourself of three things: show up, be present, and be positive. Here’s why.
Show Up On Time
I am fully aware of these concepts, however when you are going through the motions it can be difficult to remember the tiny details. Over time, we need to remind ourselves of the concepts we learned from before.
Relearning is part of the process.
With this one, perhaps you are showing up on time. Maybe that’s part of your routine already. But there is more to it than showing up on time. For example, why not show up a little early and add more to your routine?
Showing up on time doesn’t always mean being there at the time your boss or client expects you to be there.
It’s showing up at the time that you expect yourself to be there.
I believe that setting a specific time for yourself to be somewhere can help. If it’s earlier than the expected time, you’ve got time to spare and do other things.
Some people wake up early to exercise or show gratitude. Some people show up earlier to write. Consider doing things a little bit earlier than you normally would before starting your day.
For me, I want to work on being up earlier so I can take some morning walks.
The second thing is being present. Honestly this is something that I feel I’m lacking and it might be why my mood has been shifting about in my work from time to time.
I’ve noticed that I’ve been struggling a lot with writing topics. Now I know that comes with the fact that I’m writing every day. That’s the nature of the beast.
However what I’m writing about specifically lacks the sort of emotions and drive I’ve had before.
In a sense, I feel a little empty.
Not depressed, but certainly lacking something in my writing.
As a writer, I think the thing that I’m really lacking here is conversations. I’m tucked away in my room all the time and lack that social interaction. Even while I’m online I’m not really talking much.
What this means is I need to be more engaging. I need to be present in the world around me and pay attention to conversations and events.
For the other entrepreneurs out there, it’s more of a matter of having conversations and paying attention to the industry. Not to mention setting aside time for other aspects of your life.
When we neglect areas in our lives, they have a way of creeping up on us. Be present in your life and the world around you can help you get emotions back, especially when you do this third thing.
Despite my going through the motions attitude, I have been in high spirits. I have still been smiling and find some joy in my work. Probably the fact I’m getting paid and I’m making steps towards changing my financial situation.
That being said, that positivity hasn’t always been reflected in the work. In a sense I’ve been positive for the future as opposed to what I’m doing right now.
What this means for you and me is showing gratitude and appreciation for what we are currently going through.
Being present doesn’t always mean engaging in that moment, it’s being positive in that moment as well and showing your appreciation.
Try It Out
These three things I think when applied in this fashion will help you pump emotions back into your work. As an entrepreneur, it’s difficult to get out of the cycle and when you have something good that requires this constant consistency, it can wear you out.
Try these things and let me know how it goes for you. Of course I’ll be applying this as well.
To your growth!

Yesterday was another day to break up the routine. I went to see Hotel Transylvania 3 with my brother and his girlfriend. This is pretty much the end of the summer movies so we’ll be seeing considerably less over the next few months.
Either way, I had a fun time. What was also pretty nice was the fact I finished most of my work prior to seeing the movie allowing me to relax more and take in the film.
This goes to show that having a reward can provide great incentive in more ways than one.
