Self-Care Is Making Us Lonelier

How to navigate a world where everything is “self-care”

For the past year, I’ve been without a heavy amount of work. During that time, I poured my attention into video creation, a little bit of drawing, and here. Honing my writing skills time and time again through writing scripts and these articles.

It’s nice to finally be reached out by a client and given work once again — my life could certainly use it as I prefer to be somewhat busy.

But at the same time, the world can look at the things I did leading up to that point as a form of self-care.

After losing what few clients I had last year and not much to do, I was at a low point in my career. If I didn’t sign up for social assistance a while ago, I would probably be living with my parents once more. Beyond that, I wasn’t exactly leaving the house and spending a lot of time at a desk.

I’m not entirely “fixed” now that I have some bit of work to do on top of my other commitments. However I wouldn’t put it past people to encourage some form of self-care methods.

Getting into bath bombs.

Maybe drink some more tea.

Have moments where I can “unplug.”

I write (and sometimes do videos) about self-help for those who don't like self-help. Complete with the occasional memes and riffs on the industry that I love.
