We’ve all had goals before obviously, but have you heard of 10X goals before? Have you ever tried them before?
I’m currently in the midst of one at the moment that I’m typing this and it’s been quite the journey.
It’s my year long goal this year to be ten folding my income this year.
While that is impressive if I can pull it off, I know at the current rate I’m going, I won’t hit that goal. We’re half way through the year and I’m only a fifth of the way there.
I’m not saying this to be pessimistic, but as I explained to my accountability partner:
“This goal isn’t meant to be achieved.”
Sure it would be fantastic if I can ten fold my puny income into something more substantial. But that’s not the real reason for setting that particular goal.
10X Gets You Moving
The concept of 10X is as it says. You take you goal and multiply it by 10 and that’s your new goal.
But as I said, the goal isn’t meant to be achieved. Your goal isn’t to achieve that goal.
That’s not to deny that achieving it would be amazing, but the idea is to first get you moving.
By 10X your goal, you need to 10X your progress as well. Now this doesn’t mean you want to rush things as quickly as possible. Instead, your aim is to be working as efficiently (without hampering quality) towards your goal.
10X Gets You Thinking
Since you want to be working efficiently it obviously begs the question “How can you be more efficient?”
But 10X goal setting also gets you to look at your current situation and ask more questions.
For example, if I were to tenfold my income I have to think beyond my current situation. When I set that goal at the beginning of the year I had a small pool of income to work with. I have a sponsor for my blog and I was also getting a little bit of money from Medium.
In order to make any remote progress on my goals I would have to do more than rely on those sources. So with that I got asking two questions that changed my current situation:
“What can I do to improve my current income streams?”
“What else can I do to boost my income?”
This prompted me to be more creative. I’ve been putting effort into writing and even a little bit of marketing too. There’s also the steps I’ve taken to grow my audience on Medium too.
Furthermore I’ve looked beyond my existing streams and have been taking steps towards adding more. My freelance work is part of those efforts.
10X Challenges You
As a result of setting this massive goal, I’ve made more money than I did last year in half the time. That is amazing!
Sure it wasn’t a huge leap in the grand scheme of things, but it was growth for me. For a person who was pretty lazy and kept putting things off, this sort of dedication has helped me grow over the past several months.
That is the power of 10X goals. It challenges you in a variety of ways. Mentally, physically, and emotionally.
In the end though, you might not be able to achieve that goal. But the idea of 10X goals isn’t meant to discourage you. That’s the same case with overwhelming as well.
10X are meant to be massive goals. Massive goals that provide alternative benefits.
Like I said above, it’s incredible if you can achieve it. But that’s not the point of 10X goals or goals in general.
Goals are meant to teach us the things we value.
I’ll always remember the growth and steps that I took with regards to this goal. Whether I achieved it or not, doesn’t matter. I will always remember the journey as opposed to the destination.
That is the purpose of 10X goals.
To your growth!

Yesterday was a real scorcher once more. I haven’t been working out all that much as a result, but I will be making up for it since we’re in some cooler weather now.
Instead I had my fan blasting mild warm air on my face and I put a rag on my neck to stay cool.
As for my hustling, I’ve been making a lot of headway on some of my goals this week. I should be wrapping up a few of them today (Friday).
There’s going to be a lot of exciting additions coming up and I’m pumped to announce them once they are ready.
