The idolizing of billionaires is appealing because we all innately want what they have so they're seen as solid reference points even though in reality you really don't need that much money.
Some level of effort is definitely needed, but the bar is not as high as we think that it is. If you've got a six figure job you can probably make it. Hell, if you can budget well, 60-80K a year could be enough.
A lot of it boils down to actions that make the biggest impact, having a good network that can support your efforts, and a good amount and focus to get it done.
