Framed as a collaborative effort, I couldn’t help but agree when a financial advisor reached out to me a few months ago to arrange a meeting. It was a quick call to figure out what we were all about and see if we could help one another.

As I got onto the call though I quickly realized what it was. The advisor asked about what I was up to and we essentially agreed to discuss my financial position at a later date.

They weren’t trying to collaborate with me.

They were there to sell me a financial plan and bring me in as a potential client.

But the conversation was still a meaningful one. They were part of a Fortune 500 company and recently that company started to make a bit of a shift in what their advisors were to do.

Facing off in the digital world, the advisors were to position themselves more as affiliates of the company. That was the general sense I got when looking at their profile.

He had technological savvy to put together a profile. But it begs the question of what the point is about it?

I write (and sometimes do videos) about self-help for those who don't like self-help. Complete with the occasional memes and riffs on the industry that I love.
