The Inconvenience Of Convenience
How making things more convenient erodes our enjoyment in life.
With excitement in his eyes, my roommate announced he picked up a few items for the kitchen, some groceries, and a video game.
The game in question was Mario & Luigi: Brothership, a franchise to a series that Nintendo hasn’t touched in several years. Originally launched for the Game Boy Advance, many fans fell in love with the franchise for its quirky characters, the Mario Brothers, and for a unique combat style that was not typical for any RPG at the time or even now.
The Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga and it’s accompanying games Partners in Time and Bowser’s Inside Story oozed of Mario charm and all around captivated people to this franchise.
For me personally Superstar Saga was the first time I considered Luigi my #1 Mario character. To this day, I’m still a fan of him.
Nintendo returned to this franchise to the excitement of a tonne of fans this year with their latest game after fans hadn’t seen any new titles drop for this franchise since 2009. To Nintendo, this new game would be an encapsulation of these games wrapped all in a convenient package for players.
