Why Challenge In Video Games Is Never Present
We only perceive difficulty in games. It is entirely by design.
Endless Legend is a 4X turn-based strategy game. It’s a game that I haven’t heard of but that my cousin plays from time to time.
From what my cousin has told me, the game has your typical difficulty format. Instead of the standard 3-levels of difficulty system, Endless Legend has 6 levels.
You’d think already that with double the difficulty levels available, Endless Legends would have a wide spectrum of difficulty. The lowest would be great for casual players while the highest level would provide a substantial amount of strategy and thought put into each move that you make.
But it isn’t.
The game has an AI that you can easily abuse and exploit and once you have a grasp on what the AI does, the game becomes laughably easy regardless of difficulty level.
Recently though, the community has recognized this and a member of the community did something about it. For years they were developing a mod package for the Steam version of the game and in recent months it was released through the Steam Workshop.
This mod does a lot.
