Willpower: One Of Self-Helps Biggest Lies
As more research rolls out, the question shifted to “how do we gain willpower?” to “Is willpower even real?”
Sure he talks “off the cuff”, but the topic was the first topic he brought up in his 2 hour speech. It was his opener. You know, the thing to hook people in.
At one point he mentioned he “shouldn’t say it” before saying it and wrapping up with “I couldn’t resist.”
It was a bizarre 12 minute rambling that even this acclaimed golfer’s daughter said “a poor choice of approaches to honouring his memory.”
But Trump just couldn’t resist. He couldn’t hold himself back. He had to talk about another man’s genitals. He had to talk about it at great length and with fondness and awe.
Willpower is often framed in this kind of sense. Not necessarily the urge to talk about another man’s equipment, but our ability to resist something now for something greater later down the road.
It can be referred to as our ability to resist various impulses or our tolerance for instant gratification. However it’s more commonly used in the context of motivation and goals.
