You hit the nail on the head on that one Alicia! I've only recently heard the phrase "Let them eat cake" though I'm more familiar with "Give the man a fish, and he'll be fed for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll be fed for the rest of his life." While I do think there are some benefits to giving out resources, the biggest thing is answering that question on sustainability. Help - or philanthropy in general - would be better to look at making sure someone is looked after but is then given the tools/guidance or whatever is needed to ensure they can do this on their own. Philanthropy is more like the training wheels towards good and growth rather than the crutch that it's been thus far.
